Somber trenches etched by streaming rain
Tears devour stone grain by grain
Until a grim visage can never regain
The glare that could cause a demon pain.
Over the centuries winged guardian reign
Glowering upon all with disdain
Yet it could’ve been carved like the angel near
Whom all look upon with love so clear
Their eyes cast disgust like a spear
Piercing the gargoyle in ways severe,
Though it’ll never whisper agony to any ear
Rather let the rain feign its needed tear
Shed to erode the hideous
Into something piteous
At which crowds will cry delirious,
“Kindly do forgive us
We could not see the oh so serious
Ways you pained deleterious.”
Meanwhile evil waits with bated breath
For the end of a look that scares them to death.
